St. John, here we come!
Reggie waits on the dock in St. Thomas for the ferry that
will whisk (or chug) us away to St. John.
Seawing, our honeymoon villa
Although the villa is just as secluded as it appears,
it is not exactly private, since servicemen (hot tub,
pest control, and landscaping) keep dropping by unannounced
throughout the week.
Inside Seawing
Lee Anna enjoys the villa so much, what with the breezes,
views, hot tub, and caribbean (read outdoor) shower, that
she would be content to rarely venture forth.
Coral Bay
This is the view from our villa's lower deck,
where we like to lounge, read, and sleep, when
we aren't watching sailboats go by.
Our side of the island
We pose at a scenic overlook along the highway. We
have to wait for the wild goats to move before this
photo can be snapped.
No rest for the weary?
We hike to one of the highest points on the island,
but stop along the way to get a picture of this
unusual beach (the white shore is composed of large,
rounded stones, not sand).
We can't say cheese...
or we'll get lungs full of water. This
is on one of our first snorkeling trips
of the week.
Oo, Ah -- Trunk Bay
We have to pause illegally in the middle of
the highway to record this breathtaking view.
Land ho!
The ferry brings us in to Cruz Bay, the largest town
on St. John. Our villa is on the other side of the
island, near the smaller town of Coral Bay.
Our home away from home
Lee Anna poses by the sign for our villa at the base of
our driveway. It turns out to be a good thing we rented
a jeep, because that is one steep (sometimes hair-raising)
ascent.
Lee Anna in the oleander
We celebrate making it to the top of the driveway
with a picture of the awesome view.
Our patio
This is roughly the view when taking a shower
outside, except Lee Anna is optional. Don't worry:
we also have an indoor shower and tub, but where's the
fun in that?
Reggie relents
After a few days, Reggie gives up on the idea that we will
cook for ourselves (lighting the stove is too scary) and we
eat way too much shrimp at the Lime Inn in Cruz Bay.
Snorkeling in Trunk Bay
Once the hordes of cruise ship guests clear out,
we have Trunk Bay and its underwater trail to ourselves.
Chillin' with Cap'n Rusty
We take a day trip in a trimaran (a cousin of a catamaran)
which was built and is occasionally steered by trusty Cap'n Rusty.
We get to snorkel around other islands in the US and BVI, including
Little St. John.
